Field of View: Wide or narrow, which is best?

In astronomy, the field of view of your telescope is controlled by your eye piece, like a lens for a camera.

A wide field of view of 100 degrees or more let's you see more of the night sky and makes it easier to find specific stars, planets, or what ever you're looking for. A narrow field of view makes it harder to find objects because you're essentially looking through a straw but you can see much more detail when you do find something, such as craters on the moon.

Many telescopes use a smaller telescope called a finder scope mounted on top of them that has a wider field of view to help the big scope find and focus on targets.

In business, our information systems need to generate both kinds of data: wide field of view to see what is going on in the economy, with customers, with competitors, and what the future looks like. We also need a narrow field of view so we know what's happening in our company on a daily and weekly basis in terms of sales, production, cash position, and a few other metrics critical for your business or industry.
